It’s probably not as funny out context but we found the dry delivery and unexpected frequency hilarious. While another guest excitedly tells you about the alien critter he’s entered into a sci-fi dog race.
‘They’ve got guns and they don’t like me’ is Shepard’s unexpected response.Īt a party later on you’er given leave to mingle with guests however you want, with a couple of condescending Asari becoming very confused over the phrase ‘stiff upper lip’. ‘What’s the intel on the mercs?’ asks the always serious Liara. The game is packed fully of more one-liners than everything else BioWare has done combined, and most of them are genuinely funny. Much of the focus for the jokes is a ditzy new Alliance officer called Brooks, who becomes roped into helping Team Shepard get out of trouble. The explanation for what’s going revolves around a very familiar sci-fi story concept but it’s handled well and is certainly unexpected.īut what’s far more surprising is just how funny the download is, as it comes across a bit like the lone comedy episode you often find in an otherwise serious series of American TV. Instead it starts with Shepard and crew being given shore leave on the Citadel space station, at which point you find out you’re being targeted by a mysterious group of mercenaries. There is a serious story to give structure to the game but thankfully it doesn’t have anything to do with the Reapers or Cerberus.
And possibly more if you’re that kind of Shepard… But in Citadel hanging out with your team is what it’s all about. Mass Effect 2’s Lair Of The Shadow Broker is rightly held up as the lone exception but even that suffered from a lot of samey action and too few chances to just hang out and chat with your crew.
